Bookkeeping & VAT

This is another area that in our opinion is not best addressed by a “one fits all” approach.

The simple reality is that the vast majority of people we come across do not want to use accounting software. No matter how easy things are made to sound by TV adverts or some digital accountants, bookkeeping and accounting software is typically used by guess who? Bookkeepers and accountants. We often come across business owners who have come to us as they’ve spoken to an accountant who has insisted that they use Xero or Quickbooks. It’s freaked them out. They’ve used spreadsheets before and all they want to do is keep their records in an orderly manner to help at year-end time. As we’ve said many times throughout our website, our service is designed to fit the client. If you don’t want to use software for your recordkeeping, don’t.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with using spreadsheets to record your income and outgoings, despite what some people are led to believe. VAT returns can be submitted through simple bridging software that is linked to their bookkeeping spreadsheets. If you don’t want to do any bookkeeping at all, speak to us about what we can do for you instead.

This isn’t to say that accounting software doesn’t have it’s place, of course, it does. Some extremely useful information can be extracted from accounting software but only if it is kept up to date and the information entered is accurate.
